Brake Pads

Is It Time to Replace Your Chevy's Brake Pads?

A car's braking system is one of the most important things to keep up to date to ensure your ultimate safety on the road. How do you know when it's time to replace those essential brake pads? Stopping by your local Chevy dealer on a routine basis will help you stay on track with all of your braking needs. Here are a few things you can keep an eye out for that signal brake maintenance may be required. Unpleasant Noise When it comes to your brakes, any noise is usually bad news. If your Chevy makes any grinding, squeaking, or clicking sounds, it's safe to say the braking system is in need of a tune-up. Try not to ignore these indicators as they are usually one of the first and most obvious signs of trouble. more Car Shakes You want to control the direction of your car, not the other way around. If a car's steering wheel vibrates, shakes, or veers to one side while braking, the pads most likely need replacing. The same school of thought goes if your car takes longer to come to a complete stop. A healthy braking system shouldn't require any extra driving effort. High Mileage On average, pads are to be replaced every 50,000 miles for most vehicles. However, it is best to check them every 25,000 miles. Keeping track of how far you have driven since your last service guarantees premium safety while driving. This is especially true if you are prone to taking long road trips or have a lengthy commute. The mileage can add up quickly before you know it. Thin Appearance Stay familiar with the appearance of healthy brakes. No dust should be present. The exterior pads need to be at least ¼ inch thick. Anything under that and your braking system is not functioning at its full potential. You can easily perform this check yourself since the pads can be seen through your car wheels. Don't worry; you don't need to be a pro mechanic as this does not require disassembling your vehicle. Leaks If fluid is leaking from the brakes, this is a major sign service needs to be done. It could be the pads or other braking system parts, including the caliper and rotors. Occasionally, occurrences like these will trigger a brake malfunction indicator light to come on, so be on the lookout. Remember, early detection will help save you money on expensive repairs. Keeping your eyes, ears, and instincts aware of your car's performance are just some of the responsible things you can do as an owner. Visit us at Jennings Chevrolet in Glenview, IL for a brake check-up today. Our expert technicians will perform high-quality service on your vehicle. Also, feel free to pop by Jennings for oil changes or tire and battery assistance. We pride ourselves on making sure you and your Chevy are hitting the road as safely as possible.

radiator

3 Common Signs Your Chevy Needs a Radiator Repair

If your engine isn't cooled, high temperatures can rapidly cause damage to sensitive parts of your engine. The radiator controls the temperature by removing the heat from the engine and replacing it with cool air from the outside. Your radiator can develop problems, and if it does, you'll need a radiator repair. As your trusted Chevy dealer, we can help you. Damaged Thermostat When your engine temperature rises over 180F, coolant is released into your engine. This liquid coolant is pumped through the engine and absorbs heat as it moves. Once the coolant reaches your engine, it's fed into rows of thin metal tubes in the front of the radiator. Air blows in through the radiator grille, and air movement across the tubes reduces the temperature. Once the coolant has cooled, it recirculated through your engine. This process depends on the thermostat. This valve detects the rising temperature and opens to release the coolant. The thermostat, like any other component, can fail eventually. If it fails, it will jam open or closed, depending on its last position. If the thermostat jams closed, it won't release any coolant regardless of your engine temperature. This will cause your engine temperature to rise rapidly. more Leaking Coolant The coolant in your engine is a mix of antifreeze and water, and it has the special ability to absorb heat. Coolant operates in a fast-moving and highly-pressurized closed system. Unlike engine oil, for example, coolant isn't consumed as the system operates. We check your coolant regularly according to your service schedule and replace it, as older coolant becomes less effective. If you notice a puddle of pink, green, yellow, or blue liquid underneath your car, you have a coolant leak. If this leak isn't found and fixed, it can be caused your engine to overheat. Coolant can leak from several different places, including the hoses, radiator, and radiator cap. Call us right away if you find evidence of a leak, and our technicians will find and fix it. We'll then check the system, and refill the coolant. Rusted Radiator Metal rusts if it's exposed to water and isn't coated to protect it. Your radiator is protected by your hood and the radiator grille. This means that your radiator can only show signs of rust if there is a leak somewhere in your engine. As mentioned, coolant is a mix of antifreeze and water. A hole in a radiator hose, for example, could cause pressurized coolant to spurt onto the radiator. The heat in your engine will dry the coolant relatively quickly, but this exposure to water can be enough to start the rusting process. Once rust starts, it can easily devour your radiator. If you see patches on rust on your radiator, we will need to replace it. If you have any signs of a radiator problem, call us right away at Jennings Chevrolet.

The interior and exterior both have been completely redesigned, including a lengthening that allows for a roomier passenger experience and additional cargo space. Also included for the first time is an independent rear suspension – a feature that's already been copied by its closest rivals. more Engine and Performance Every previous model of Tahoe has been powered by a V-8 engine, and that hasn't changed in 2021. It still comes standard with a 355-hp 5.3-liter engine with an option to upgrade to a 420-hp 6.2-liter. However, new to the 2021 model is a diesel 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine. While the diesel option is less powerful, coming in at 277hp, it has the same towing capacity as the larger 6.2-liter V-8. Along with the standard 10-speed automatic transmission, you have your choice between an all-wheel or rear-wheel drive. Fuel Efficiency When it comes to fuel efficiency, the most economic option is the standard 5.3-liter V-8, which has been rated at 16mpg in the city and 20mpg on the highway, with an average of 18mpg combined. Auto-stop/start technology comes standard with both 5.3-liter engine and 6.2-liter V-8 options, in addition to cylinder deactivation which is meant to improve fuel economy in the city. The diesel option, despite its lower HP range, is capable of averaging about 27mpg on the highway, and 23mpg combined highway and city. All-told, the diesel engine is capable of driving for about 600 miles on the freeway on a single tank of gas. Interior As mentioned, the 2021 Tahoe has the largest interior yet. In the third row alone, you can expect an additional 10 inches of leg space, with the second row of seats able to be effortlessly slid forward or backward for increased flexibility to meet various passenger or storage needs. Thanks to the newly-introduced independent rear suspension, the interior has a lower and flatter load floor. When you fold the second and third-row seats, you can expect a whopping 123 cubic feet of cargo space – that's 28 more than previous models. Infotainment If you like a comfortable, relaxing ride for you and your passengers, the Tahoe has you covered. Every model comes with a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, and a 10.2-inch touchscreen capable of using Apple CarPlay, Android Auto. There are also several interior charging ports to keep your devices charged and running during even the longest trips. The 2021 Tahoe has been redesigned from the ground up. The newly added independent rear suspension allows for a roomier cabin and increased cargo space, while the addition of a 277-hp diesel engine will keep you on the road for the long-haul. Combine the comfy interior with various infotainment options and a smooth ride, and it's easy to see why the 2021 Tahoe is in high demand.
