Wilmette Historical Museum

Glenview, IL is an incorporated village presided over by Michael Jenny. It is located just 15 miles northwest of the Chicago Loop, and its proximity to this area of Chicagoland means that people who live in this village have easy access to a number of museums. Today, we’re looking at three of the best institutions to visit in and around Glenview.

1. Kohl Children’s Museum

If your little ones are begging to get out of the house, you should strongly consider taking them to Kohl Children’s Museum. They’ll love that there are plenty of play stations to explore, and learning is facilitated for all types of learners. Some of the exhibits change, but there are some permanent fixtures, like a little Whole Foods where kids can learn to shop for healthy foods.

You’ll love that parking is ample and free and there is a cute cafe attached to the museum if you feel like you don’t have the energy to make and pack a non-perishable lunch. The Bean Sprouts Cafe offers plenty of adorable, nutritious meals for your kids, pizza, a coffee bar, and much more. This is the perfect opportunity to remind your children that if they want a sweet treat, like an ice cream sandwich, they should eat something nutritious first.

2. Exploritorium

Exploritorium is another great children’s museum to visit in the Glenview area, especially if you have a toddler. There’s a Toddler Zone that offers a safe place for your little one to learn, explore, and run off some energy safely while you sit in a comfortable adult-sized chair. For older kids, there is plenty to do, too, like explore the:

  • Engineering Megastation
  • Climbing Wall
  • Tic-Tok Ball Trak
  • Transportation Station (who doesn’t love trains?)
  • Water Play Area with Water Vortex

Just make sure that if you think your kids will want to play in the Water Play Area, you pack spare clothes. They will probably ensure everyone leaves the area soaked. If you’re worried about parking, you can take the 97 to Oakton St and Knox Ave. It’s only a 110-foot walk from the bus stop to the Exploritorium. However, if you have a nimble car, like the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV, you won’t have to worry about parking or navigating tight Skokie streets.

3. Wilmette Historical Museum

Your kids will also have fun visiting Wilmette Historical Museum. This museum has plenty to offer kids of all ages, including programs for preschoolers and kindergarteners. Free parking can be found in a lot in the museum’s rear, or you can pay for parking on Ridge Road directly in front of the museum.

There are lots of child-friendly institutions to visit in and around Glenview. Three of the best are Kohl Children’s Museum, Exploritorium, and Wilmette Historical Museum.
