Find Great Threads at These 3 Thrift Stores

1. New To YouMan Driving Car | Glenview, IL

Located at Glenview Community Church at 1000 Elm Street, this secondhand store has a 75-year history here in the village. Situated where the Glenview Public Library is now, it was first named The Exchange as it began as a place where church members could exchange or purchase children’s clothing outgrown by one family to be used by another family. The merchandise types expanded when the store’s location moved to the church.

Today at New To You you’ll find high-quality household products and all types of clothing and accessories including name brands. The profits from the sales go to local non-profit organizations. Check for opening dates and times before you plan your trip as the store hours vary depending on the season.

2. Community Threads

The Community Threads thrift store in Arlington Heights is located at 250 W Rand Road in Arlington Plaza. This shop is known for having a large selection of good quality secondhand items in great condition, so don’t be surprised if you might want to purchase more than you first thought. If that happens, your Chevrolet Equinox RS has you covered with its seats folded down, plus the under-floor cargo space in the rear.

Well-Organized Shopping

Rather than just aisles with different groups of merchandise, Community Threads is organized into open departments, many marked with large ceiling-hung signs such as “Kids and Baby,” “Books,” “Women,” “Men,” “Shoes,” and more. The “Designer” section features trendy fashion items and name-brand clothing. Do check store hours before you go as they may change weekly.

3. Hummingbird Resale

Hummingbird Resale, in Skokie at 4632 Oakton Street, presents as a fancy high-end boutique as it typically carries a lot of antiques and art pieces like crystal creations, carvings, and figurines from around the globe. You may also find opulent velvet sofas and stately fine wooden furniture here. Everything is secondhand merchandise though, and the store often has a wide selection available at reasonable prices.
