Whether you’re looking to plan a fun weekend or take advantage of a vacation from work, there are many fun day trips that you can coordinate right here in Glenview. Here are five of our favorite ideas that are sure to please all members of your family or friends group and leave everyone with lasting memories.

1. Kohl Children’s Museum

A visit to the Kohl Children’s Museum is a great way to spend an afternoon with the kids. Children up to age eight are invited to learn, create, and explore with interactive, hands-on exhibits.

From shopping at the pretend grocery store to watching water energy in motion at the waterworks station, your little ones are sure to have a blast. Storytime, arts and crafts, and face painting are examples of the activities that occur here. If you’re looking for a fun way to expand your children’s imaginations, consider planning a family trip to this delightful museum.

2. Chicago Botanic Garden

The Chicago Botanic Garden features over 350 acres of living plants, and it is located on nine islands in the Cook County Forest Preserves. Perfect for all ages, you can come here to enjoy the best of nature on a nice day. The grounds are divided into smaller gardens and include a Japanese garden, English garden, butterfly garden, bulb garden, and a rose garden.

You can also surround yourself with 100-year-old Bonsai trees, beautiful water lilies, and the aromatic smell of fresh flowers. Several fountains and waterfalls around the park will help you feel relaxed in no time.

3. Des Plaines River Trail

If you’re looking for a good hike, consider planning a trip to the Des Plaines River Trail. You can easily spend the day walking, hiking, or biking on a 56-mile trail that varies between paved asphalt, crushed stone, and forest floor. The rapidly-changing terrain makes it an exciting adventure for experienced trailblazers.

Those looking for a less-challenging path will enjoy the first twenty miles going south. You may even spot a deer, snake, or turtle along the way. Several parking lots are located along the trail’s length, making it easily accessible from various points.

4. Skokie Lagoons

Anyone who loves spending time on the water can happily boat, fish, or kayak their afternoons away at Skokie Lagoons. With nearly 900 acres of land, you can launch a canoe, kayak, or sailboat into one of this preserve’s many rivers or spend the day fishing for rainbow trout in one of the 40 lakes.

Boat rentals and fishing guides are available for all guests. If you’re feeling up to it, you can even take a relaxing walk on the North Branch Trail System, extending twenty miles along the North Branch of the Chicago River.

5. Funtopia

For days when the kids are driving you crazy, consider letting them burn off their energy at Funtopia. This entertainment center combines sports and fun with kid-friendly climbing walls, a ropes course, giant slides, and more. The activities here are great for all ages, and even the adults can join in on the fun. From jumping to crawling to sliding and freefalling, your kids are sure to be exhausted by the end of your visit. It’s also a great way to exercise while having fun.
