Our beautiful town of Glenview, IL is 15 miles northwest of the Chicago Loop. We grew up as a farming community, and nature and the environment are very important to us. We have numerous amazing local attractions to delight both residents and visitors. These are some of our favorite attractions we’re sure you’ll enjoy.
Historic Wagner Farm
This farm was owned by the Wagner family from 1850 to 1997, and it is now maintained as a working farm by the town of Glenview. The farm building was built in 1920, and it has been faithfully restored to its original state. When you step into the farmhouse, it’s like being transported back to 1920. All the features and fittings are original, and as you wander through the building you can see fascinating artifacts from the farm’s past.
The farm is aimed at introducing city children to the fun and excitement of rural life and helping them to learn about our farming heritage. Beans, tomatoes, zucchini, and eggs are amongst the produce grown here and are all for sale at the farm store. Kids have numerous fun activities to try, including swinging on a tire, learning about farm livestock, and browsing through a hundred-year-old grocery store. Wagner farm is located at 1510 Wagner Road.
The Grove
This ecologically diverse 150-acre area is one of our town’s busiest attractions. The site contains several historical buildings set amongst the natural beauty of the area. The Kendicott House, which dates from 1856, is a beautiful example of Gothic Revival architecture and has been restored to its former glory. The house contains many original artifacts from the 19th century and is certainly worth a visit.
A first-class interpretative center houses live snakes, birds, fish, and turtles, and also includes educational and environmental exhibits. Next door to the center is an original blacksmith store with fascinating period woodwork, tinwork, and stone carving tools. Nature trails traverse the area, and you can view a large of local flora and fauna as you enjoy a peaceful stroll through the natural world.
Gallery Park
The park comprises 142 acres, including a 45-acre lake. It is our town’s largest park and features a wide variety of activities for the whole family to enjoy. Two walking trails, the Park Trail and the Lakeside Trail loop around the beautiful Lake Glenview. A fitness zone provides a space for cardio steps, chest presses, and other exercises, and tennis courts, soccer fields, and catch-and-release fishing spots are also available.
As you walk through the park, you can also visit the Fountain Plaza and the magnificent Amphitheater. Benches are strategically located for the best views, and picnic tables are available where you can enjoy a meal amidst the beautiful surroundings.
When you have visited some of our town’s attractions, come and visit us at Jennings Chevrolet. We have a huge range of vehicles available, and you’ll drive away in the car of your dreams.
